Minnesota Middle School on Lockdown: New Prague on Alert After 'Active Shooter' Reported
A middle school is on lockdown in southern Minnesota after a "code red' was issued at the institution on Wednesday morning.
New Prague Mayor Chuck Nickolay has confirmed that the code red was issued at the city's middle school, but did not offer any further information as the drama unfolded.
Scott County Sheriff Kevin Studnicka did offer some more information, however, telling the Minnesota Star Tribune that no one has been reported hurt so far, although officers were still in the process of searching the campus areas and clearing the school buildings.
According to reports, the lockdown was put in place after a 911 emergency call was placed reporting that there was an active shooter at the school.
New Prague is about 45 miles southwest of Minneapolis, and according to information about he middle school, has about 875 students from grade 6 through to grade 8.
