Minnesota Timberwolves Forward Andrew Wiggins Signs Five-Year, $146.5 Million Extension Deal
Minnesota Timberwolves forward Andrew Wiggins has become the second player of his draft class to cash in on a max contract extension.
The Timberwolves have announced that Wiggins has signed a multiyear contract extension on Wednesday. The team didn't disclose the financial details of the deal, but Shams Charania of The Vertical has reported that Wiggins is getting a five-year, $146.5 million max extension from the Timberwolves.
Of course, that figure is based on the National Basketball Association's (NBA) projected salary cap for next season, so that's subject to change. Interestingly, there is no player option in the deal.

"I'm pleased that we've reached an agreement with Andrew on a contract extension. Andrew is one of the best young players in the NBA and he has the talent and work ethic to get even better and be a foundation for our franchise for many years," Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said, via NBA.com.
"I'm very excited to continue my career with the Timberwolves. I love it here," Andrew Wiggins said, according to NBA.com. "We've had some good times over the last three seasons, but the best is yet to come. I look forward to doing right by them and bringing this team to the postseason," he added.
For weeks now, observers have noted that Wiggins does not deserve a max contract because of the flaws in his game. His offensive numbers have improved season after season, but right now, he is just a one-dimensional player who only does well on the offensive end of the floor.
Wiggins will have to improve his defense and rebounding if he wants to become a complete player, and he has to continue working on his outside shot and playmaking ability as well.
Well, the Timberwolves clearly have high expectations for the 2015 NBA rookie of the year. That's why they are willing to give him that much money even though he's an unfinished product.
