Minnesota were dominant early in that match, leading by 10 after the first quarter. They maintained their pressure and performance throughout the game and even when they struggled in the fourth quarter by scoring only 16 points, they made sure their defence was up to the task as they held their rivals down to only 15.
At the end of the game, Minnesota took a comfortable 95-78 victory with rookie Karl Anthony Towns taking 28 points and grabbing 14 rebounds on the night.
For Denver, Kenneth Faried had only nine points but 15 boards in the losing effort.
In the next game, the battle was much closer as they eventually needed overtime to settle the match.
Still playing at home, Denver made sure that they were up to par this time and in the 111-108 win, veteran guard Jameer Nelson had 20 points, six rebounds and seven assists to lead the Nuggets to victory, while Towns had another solid night with 14 points and nine rebounds.
