'Mission Impossible 6' Reportedly in the Works
News has emerged the sixth installment of the "Mission Impossible" franchise is said to be already in development.
"Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation" has yet to hit theaters by the end of July this year, and already Paramount Pictures may have set the next sequel in motion.
Considered the biggest moneymaker of Tom Cruise's career so far, the "Mission Impossible" franchise has seen continuing success, earning over $2 billion since the first movie hit the big screen in 1996, and grossing over $450 million worldwide.
No details have yet been released on the sequel, except that it has been tentatively titled "Mission Impossible 6," and it is currently underway, with Cruise reprising his role as IMF point man and main protagonist Ethan Hunt.
Cruise will also be returning to produce the sequel, together with J.J. Abrams, David Ellison, and Dana Goldberg, with Don Granger and Matt Grimm as executive producers. No word has yet emerged on who will be directing the sixth film.
With the first three films of the action-spy thriller series following Cruise's Ethan Hunt character, and the fourth and fifth sequels changing gears to feature ensemble casts going on impossible missions, the sixth installment is said to be following the latter development and acting as the second of a trilogy.
According to Tracking Board, the several of the ensemble cast from the past two sequels, including Paula Patton, Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg are expected to reprise their roles in the sixth film.
With the trend of for continuity emerging in major movie franchises, "Mission Impossible" will be maintaining viewer interest by bringing back members of the old cast together for more action-filled stunts for the sixth installment in the series.
Given the time gap between the previous sequels, fans of the series should expect the sixth sequel to hit theaters between four to five years from now.
