MLB Suspensions for PED Biogenesis Involvement to Happen After All-Star Break
Reportedly 20 Suspensions handed out include: Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriguez.
The MLB Biogenesis PED case took another turn when ESPN's "Outside the Lines" exposed two new details regarding Ryan Braun and player suspensions after the All-Star break.
The first note was about last years National League MVP, Ryan Braun, who became the only player to beat a PED accusation thus far, refused to answer questions about his connection with Tony Bosch's anti-aging clinic.
Bosch was an alleged PED provider of ballplayer's, and was exposed in January.
Another revelation ESPN spoke on was the suspension of as many as 20 baseball players after the All-Star break. Some of the names involved are the aforementioned Ryan Braun, ALex Rodriguez, Nelson Cruz, Bartolo Colon, Melky Cabrera, Jesus Montero, Jhonny Peralta and Everth Cabrera.
"The question is the length of the suspensions. Sources said the commissioner's office was considering 100-game bans for Braun and Rodriguez, the punishment for a second offense, even though neither player was previously suspended for violating MLB's drug policy," the ESPN story read.
It continued, "The argument, one source said, would be that they - and possibly other players - committed multiple offenses by receiving performance-enhancing drugs from Bosch and by lying about it."
In the mean time, Bosch has been meeting with MLB officials and has been turning over names and documents for the last month.
"Under the MLB drug policy, suspensions levied for failed drug tests are supposed to be kept confidential until the appeal process is completed and denied. Because the names of players connected to Biogenesis have been made public, however, MLB intends to announce any suspensions en masse before appeals," JSOnline reports.
Big stars Braun and Rodriguez will be hard to prove and may fall into the category of being suspended for the past. Braun beat his wrap last time, but his refusal to answer questions makes him look guilty. Rodriguez has admitted to steroid use, and his suspension may be to prove a point.
