'MLB The Show 17' News: Retro Mode Gameplay Details Revealed, Player Positioning Will Have Impact
'MLB The Show 17' is set to be released on March 28
One of the most notable features baseball fans can expect to find inside "MLB The Show 17" is the new Retro Mode, and developers have recently revealed more about what it will be like.
When it comes to pitching, players may find that Retro Mode's mechanics are deceptively simple.
That's because players will be able to execute pitches in this mode while using only the X button and the left analog stick, according to a recent post on the PlayStation Blog.
If they want to throw a fastball, then all they need to do is to hold down the left analog stick as they press X. If a changeup is what they need in order to get a hitter out then they can throw that too by pushing up on the left analog stick and then hitting X. Throwing a slider is a little more complicated as it requires players to tilt the left analog stick either to the left or the right after hitting X depending on which way they want the ball to break.
In Retro Mode, players can also dictate how fast their pitches travel by either holding up or down on the left analog stick just before the ball is thrown.
"MLB The Show 17" players also need to note that break, control and velocity are the only pitching attributes that matter in Retro Mode, so they will really need to execute well if they want to succeed.
One more thing, as senior community specialist and game designer Ramone Russell shared in a new video, how players are positioned on the pitcher's mound and inside the batter's box will also impact gameplay.
Perhaps positioning the batter or pitcher the right way could even determine whether the 'at bat' goes well for the player.
Developers are also expected to reveal even more details about the upcoming game's Retro Mode on Feb. 7.
"MLB The Show 17" is set to be officially released on March 28.
