'MLB The Show 17' News: Visual Changes, Updated Animations Among New Features Included

Team-specific handshakes, dugout rituals among updated animations to be included in 'MLB The Show 17'

Gameplay changes and improvements rightfully get plenty of attention when it comes to sports games, but visual tweaks are important as well, and "MLB The Show 17" is expected to feature its fair share of them.

Speaking recently to Game Informer, game designer Ramone Russell revealed that there will be different kinds of visual improvements introduced.

First off, plenty of new animations are coming to the game.

Players can see some of these new animations whenever they unleash their homerun swings inside the game, while more can be seen while defenders catch and throw the baseball.

There are also additional "non-perfect/mistake animations" that should pop up every now and then when routine plays aren't made.

New animations that don't necessarily impact gameplay – including team-specific handshakes, dugout rituals as well as outfield and homerun celebrations – will also be seen in "MLB The Show 17."

Beyond the changes that will be made to different player movements, there are also other graphical improvements coming.

Player models are being updated, with the coming changes set to make the familiar stars look a lot more like their real-life counterparts. The way shadows show up on the players' faces has also been updated so that they look even more life-like.

The visual improvements will not be limited to active players.

Even the hitters and batters created inside the game can sport even more detailed looks now, as more hairstyles and facial hairstyles have been added.

Players will also be given specific sliders that will enable them to sculpt their created character even more carefully and there is also more freedom now when it comes to selecting batting stances and homerun celebrations.

Russell also teased that something is in the works for the PS4 Pro, but players will have to wait a bit longer before they can hear about that.

"MLB The Show 17" is set to be officially released on March 28.
