'MLB The Show 17': Is the Game Worth Picking Up?
The reviews for "MLB The Show 17" are in, and if they are any indication on the quality of the game, the latest baseball simulation offering is a must-pick up.
According to Forbes, this newly released iteration might just be the best in the franchise yet. The site believes that "MLB The Show 17" made a huge step on the animation end.
Sony San Diego's attention to detail definitely made "MLB The Show 17" look superior to its predecessors in terms of the surroundings and the feel of the stadium under the sunlight.
The publication says that the lighting and effects were done beautifully in the game, giving players a realistic look and feel to get a load of.
As for the characters in the game, while "MLB The Show 17" have more real-scanned faces for players, their likeness is not really spot on, as per the site.
GameSpot, on the other hand, revels in the physics of the game that makes the depiction of the trajectory and flight path of the ball when hit by a baseball bat much more accurate.
Thanks to this amazing modification, "MLB The Show 17" players will also be treated to a variety of dynamic hits after the ball touches the bat.
The site adds that the fielders in the game are more intelligent than ever before courtesy of the Humanity AI in "MLB The Show 17." Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the pitching staff, who still commit glaring errors that should otherwise be handled much better.
Meanwhile, Polygon points out that 3-6-3 double play has returned, making "MLB The Show 17" the first game in the current-generation console to resurrect it.
The last time this double play was seen in action was in the 2013 installment. Now, Sony San Diego has finally injected it to the latest console.
"MLB The Show 17" was released exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on March 28.
