'Modern Family' Season 6 Spoilers: Episode 9 'Strangers in the Night' Recap, Episode 10 Plot News
On Wednesday's episode of "Modern Family," Alex tells her parents that she has a boyfriend, but they're worried that they may have put too much pressure on her and has made up an imaginary boyfriend. Jay schemes to get himself out of a party that Gloria insists that they attend, while Mitch and Cam have a new couch delivered but when Mitch has to help out a co-worker named Brenda, the couch's pristine condition may not be for long.
On the episode titled "Strangers in the Night", someone has been leaving flowers in the Dunphy's mailbox. Haley thinks that they might be from a flower delivery guy she dated who turns out to be an ex-con. Phil says that she's not the only good-looking person in the family and says, "Haley isn't the only hottie living here. I washed the car in my cheer shorts the other day. I definitely felt eyes on me." Alex asks if anybody ever thought that the flowers were for her since she has a boyfriend.
This shocks Claire and Phil, and they ask all about him, but then Claire thinks that maybe Alex was making it all up. Haley agrees with her, and Phil yells at them and tells Alex to invite him over. However, her boyfriend Alec's father got a job helping babies in Africa, and Alex tells her family that they are moving.
This convinces Claire and Phil that Alec does not exist, but then Alex says that she has a rebound date and has evidence that he actually does exist.
Meanwhile, Jay and Gloria attend a "Bark Mitzvah" with Jay's dog, Stella, but Jay only took Gloria so that they would fight about it and agree to have separate interests. His plan backfires when Gloria ends up having a good time.
Across town, Mitchell's co-worker (guest star Kristen Johnston) is getting a divorce. She asks if she can stay and Cam tells Mitchell that he should be more compassionate. However, she parks herself on their brand new, spotless, white-on-white couch and proceeds to make a mess of it.
Here is the synopsis for episode 10 titled "Haley's 21st Birthday":
"Haley turns 21 and the family decides to take her to a bar to celebrate, but Claire hopes her oldest daughter will start to see her as a friend instead of just her mom. Meanwhile, Jay and Phil's errand to pick up Haley's gift—a new car—takes a wrong turn. Mitchell and Cameron learn a tough lesson about themselves, and Alex, Luke, and Manny babysit Lily, whose curiosity catches them off guard."
