'Modern Family' Season 8 Spoilers: Phil Dunphy Tries to Redeem Himself After Losing Previous Game

After losing the game last year, the head of the Dunphy family will try to redeem himself in the upcoming episode of "Modern Family" season 8. Spoilers for episode 16 suggest that Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell) will participate in a charity basketball game as he aims to make up for his previous loss.

Since he lost in his previous game, Phil has been practicing to perfect his basketball skills. Unfortunately, National Basketball Association (NBA) players Charles Barkley and DeAndre Jordan suddenly show up during the event to place their bets, pressuring Phil.

Elsewhere in the episode, his wife Claire (Julie Bowen) commits a major work mistake and decides to keep it from Jay (Ed O'Neill). On the other hand, Jay is concerned because his son Joe (Jeremy Maguire) does not seem to take him seriously at home. The way he acts, it looks like he does not acknowledge Jay's authority as his father.

The episode also follows Gloria (Sofia Vergara) as she pays a quick visit to Manny (Rico Rodriguez) only to find Donna Duncan (Jane Krakowski) shaming her in front of other people for her lack of support at school.

Episode 16 will feature "Castle" star Nathan Fillion as weatherman Rainer Shine.

In other news, the hit ABC comedy series reportedly wrapped up production last week but there is no assurance yet that it will return for another season. According to reports, ABC has yet to renew the series and the six major cast members have yet to ink a deal with the network.

No new deal is reportedly in place for Burrell, Vergara, Bowen, O'Neill, Eric Stonestreet (Cameron) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell) because they are all asking for a raise in their salary. Currently, the six cast members earn $350,000 per episode.

"Modern Family" season 8 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
