'Modern Family' Season 9 Episode 5 Spoilers: Phil and Claire Get Ready for the Halloween
Claire (Julie Bowen) and Phil (Ty Burrell) are excited for the Halloween in the upcoming episode of "Modern Family."
In the episode titled "It's the Great Pumpkin, Phil Dunphy," the synopsis reveals that the Dunphy couple wants to celebrate the event in a big way, as per tradition. Unfortunately, their children will exhibit zero enthusiasm about their parents' plan. The lukewarm reaction will worry Claire and Phil, making them wonder if there is something wrong with their kids. The promo photos show exactly the kind of activity the pair has planned for the family. It involves a water vessel floating precariously in the river.
It looks like Claire and Phil want the family to spend time rowing in the water. The two are shown actively paddling while their kids wait at the dock, shouting for them to stop. Claire is wearing a Wonder woman costume complete with headgear.

Both parents have been wanting to spend quality time with the kids. In a recent interview, Burrell said that Phil and Claire are feeling off now that the children are all independent. They do not quite know what to do with the extra time they now have.
"I'm excited to think about, you know, it really is a hard thing in real life, people finding their identities [when they're] without their kids, and also the kids finding their identities as they become more independent. I think that's really what we're going to be exploring over the next two years. What do the kids become? What becomes their paths and also what of Phil and Claire? What are they gonna decide to do on their own? Other than jet-packing?" Burrell said.
Meanwhile, spoilers reveal that things are not well between Gloria (Sofia Vergara) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet). She believes that her stepson is overstaying his welcome at their house. Cam seems to have no plans to move out soon, and his presence is grating on Gloria's nerves. As for Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), he wants to know when Jay (Ed O'Neill) will finish with the remodeling of their kitchen.
"Modern Family" season 9 episode 5 will air on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
