Mojang Has Announced 'Story Mode' for 'Minecraft' is a Go (VIDEO)

Mojang released information it will be pushing through with "Minecraft: Story Mode," which it will partially release before the year ends.

With rumors a "Minecraft: Story Mode" version had been pushed to the back burner, Stockholm-based video game developer Mojang dropped a surprise gameplay trailer for "Story Mode" at the PAX Prime 2015 in Seattle over the weekend.

Microsoft purchased Mojang last year, which resulted in the development of "Story Mode," a story-based gameplay version that was initially announced at MineCon 2015. After Mojang teamed up with Telltale Games, "Story Mode" proceeded at a faster pace to give the story-less sandbox game an interactive storyline of its own.

Fans of the 3D textured cube game won't be getting "Story Mode" as a DLC or an add-on; instead it will be released as a separate spinoff title via Telltale, and be composed of five episodes, the first of which is scheduled to be released within Q4 2015.

The narrative-driven "Story Mode" will be introducing new characters using "Minecraft's" original themes, and presented using Telltale's explosive delivery style.

Players will be controlling "Story Mode's" main character Jesse, who embarks on an adventure-filled journey on a quest for The Order of the Stone, a group of four adventurers who vanquished an Ender Dragon to save the world of Minecraft.

"Story Mode" will feature interactive gameplay where players will be able to alter their actions and the outcome of the game via decision making, as well as interacting with objects in the game to give them clues to complete their quest.

Actions involve collecting items, interacting with non-playable characters, and solving puzzles in the family-friendly game which will be spiced with more emotional and mature overtones, such as the deaths of some of the major characters.

Mojang and Telltale have confirmed "Story Mode" for release on PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox 360. It will also be made available on iOS and Android devices at a future date.
