'Monopoly' Movie is Similar to 'The Goonies,' Says Producer
Producer Randy Emmett likened the upcoming "Monopoly" film adaption to the 1986 adventure film "The Goonies."
The producer revealed that the movie will have young cast members and one adult who will chase after them plus a treasure map. This is the same plot for "The Goonies" that featured a group of kids on a treasure hunt to save their house from foreclosure.
The script was written for nine months and the production will finally start this summer. The producer added that they want the Monopoly movie to be fun filled and family oriented. There is no director yet but Emmett said he is looking forward to the final choice for the position.

"Monopoly" will shoot scenes in Georgia and Louisiana and film several parts on the Atlantic City boardwalk. The cast members, director and the final plot will be revealed next month.
The trend for making toys and board games into movies started with the success of "Transformers." However, as time went by films that were reported to be in pre-production such as "Stretch Armstrong" and "Candy Land" were stopped since producers lacked confidence to complete its release.
The board game inspired "Battleship" and horror movie "Ouija" failed to impress moviegoers. This was reportedly the reason that director Ridley Scott dropped "Monopoly" the movie, which was under his development team for several years.
Criticially acclaimed director James Cameron has criticized the trend in Hollywood for board games and toys film adaptation. The director commented that the film industry has a "story crisis in their hands."
On the other hand, "The Lego Movie" was a blockbuster hit, therefore, the success of the film highly depends on the people behind it. The board games do not have a storyline so film makers can be more creative in these types of adaptations.
Meanwhile, game creator Hasbro behind the "Monopoly" board game is set to join the bandwagon. The toy company sealed the deal with Emmett to produce films based on its toys "Hungry Hungry Hippos" and "Action Man."
"Monopoly" film will hit the big screens in 2016.
