Mortal Kombat X Features New Characters, Kano Returns to New Character Roster

A new Mortal Kombat title is set to be released sometime in 2015 by NetherRealm Studios. The studio is also responsible for the release of the Mortal Kombat reboot back in 2011 and Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2013.

During the Electronic Entertainment Expo earlier this year, the company announced the title, a tenth in the Mortal Kombat franchise. The title is called Mortal Kombat X and the studio insisted that the "X" is to be pronounced as the letter, not the Roman numeral equivalent.

The game takes place some 25 years after the last Mortal Kombat game, the 2011 reboot. Unlike in previous titles, most of the characters aren't making a comeback. Other than Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Kano and Raiden, Mortal Kombat X will have a roster of new and unfamiliar characters.

This suggests that most of the other characters have already been killed in the last tournament.

As for the new characters, they will be D'Vorah, Kotal Kahn, Ferra and Torr, and Cassie Cage. As many fans of the franchise have guessed, Cassie is the daughter of previous Mortal Kombat fighters Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade.

Aside from new characters, the game will also be implementing a new fighting style system where each character comes with three different styles of combat with varying strengths and weaknesses.

The fighting styles serve to cater to a player's specific play style, without having to introduce him to a myriad of different button combinations – much like in other fighting games like "Tekken" or "Street Fighter."

Cassie Cage for example has three move sets pertaining to her character lore and design. Two styles take on the move sets of either her father or mother, while the last is more of a mix between her parent's styles.
