Moto G (3 Gen) vs iPhone - Comparison Review
The Moto G (3rd Gen) Android smartphone was launched by Motorola last July 2015. Is it going to give serious competition to Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus?
Apple had already cornered a slice of the market with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Both have beautiful, elegant and slim devices with neat aesthetics. Design of the devices has always been Apple's plus point.
The Moto G (3rd Gen) features the Motorola trademark - its back is slightly-curved and has a more subtle "Moto" dimple. It also has the bonus of being IPX7 water resistant. IPX7 is a waterproof standard. This means that the Moto G can last 30 minutes under three feet of water. This is a feature that Apple has never tried with its iPhones.
For a price below the iPhone 6, Moto G (3rd Gen) delivers more on the design front than iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. The Moto G is also customizable by using the Motomaker.
Now for the hardware specs.
• Moto G has a 5.0-inch display with 720 x 1280p (294 ppi) while the iPhone 6 has 4.7-inch display with 750 x 1334p (326 ppi)
• Moto G works with Quad-core Snapdragon 410 @ 1.4GHz w/ Adreno 306. The iPhone 6 works with Dual-core A8 @ 1.4GHz w/ GX6450.
• Moto G has 1GB RAM (upgradeable to 2GB) and internal storage options of 8GB or 16GB. It can also handle a microSD expansion of up to 32GB. The iPhone 6 also has 1GB RAM. Its internal storage options are 16, 64, or 128GB, no microSD.
• Moto G sports a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The iPhone 6 has an 8-megapixel rear camera with 1/3" sensor size, 1.5µm pixel size (for low-light) and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. Both of these phones' rear cameras have autofocus features and a dual tone LED flash.
• Moto G comes with a 2470 mAh battery (non-removable). Its additional features include an ambient light sensor, microUSB 2.0 and Google Now. It runs on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system. The iPhone 6 comes with a 1810 mAh battery (non-removable). Its additional features include Apple Pay, reversible USB lightning connector, TouchID fingerprint sensor and Siri. It runs on the iOS 8 operating system (iOS 8.4). Both of these phones have WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.
Both phones have less resolution than expected. But the real test is the price. The iPhone costs $200 and the buyer is placed under a two-year contract. This applies to any carrier. The cost for a non-contracted used iPhone 6 is $500 - its full price.
Compared to it, the Moto G (3rd Gen) is better at the base price of $180.
