Moto G GPe Android 4.4.4 Update Now Rolling Out
The Android 4.4.4 update for the Moto G Google Play Edition is now rolling out OTA.
The new software weighs in at 161MB and takes the smartphone from KOT49H to KTU84. It is rolling out in stages and includes changes such as bug fixes that will bring a smoother overall experience.
The update is being issued to ready the Moto G for the upcoming Android L software.
The Moto G was launched last year and is similar to the Moto X. The device packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, a 5-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front shooter, Android 4.4, KitKat or Android 4.3 depending on the variant, a 4.5-inch LCD display with 720 x 1280 resolution at 329 ppi and 16GB of internal storage.
The Moto G received rave reviews and was even crowned Product of the Year at the 2013 TrustedReviews Awards. The smartphone is an extremely affordable SIM-free handset which makes it even more appealing to the average customer not looking to lock into a contract.
Motorola plans to release a few new devices this year to follow up the Moto G and original Moto X.
One of these phones, the Moto X+1 and the Moto 360 smartwatch could both have an August release date.
There is no official confirmed date at this time, however, the watch was unveiled at this year's Google I/O so an official launch cannot be too far away. It would also make sense to launch it together with the Moto X2 since it acts as an accessory to the handset. They are both expected to hit stores before the end of the summer. This would also keep Motorola in step with its normal roll out schedule for the smartphone.
