Moto X Phone Engraving Customization Feature to Not be Available at Launch

The Motorola X phone engraving customization feature will not be available at launch.

The company had originally planned to offer the option on Aug. 23, however, technical problems have lead Motorola to delaying it. Reports from Computer World's JR Raphael and The Verge confirmed that the quality of the engravings wasn't satisfactory and the company decided to temporarily pull the plug on the feature.

Motorola hopes to resolve the issues with it and re-introduce it sometime in the future.

The Motorola X phone release date is scheduled for Aug. 23 for AT&T customers.

The carrier sent out a press release earlier today confirming the date. It also said that a few customers who registered on the AT&T page would get early access to Moto Maker to customize their own version of the device starting Aug. 19.

AT&T also stated that early adopters will their Moto X before the general public, however, accomplishing that will be tough since the carrier only has a short window before it is available in stores.

The rumored Verizon release date for the Moto X is Aug. 29.

A leaked Best Buy inventory screen shows that the Verizon version of the Moto X will be released on that date. The screenshot was obtained by Android Central and the site claims that the handset will arrive in stock on Aug. 15 with a street date for Aug. 29. The publication also revealed that the release of the device was "pushed forward three days from its original Aug. 23 launch date.

The new device will feature a 4.7-inch screen with a curved back, a 10-megapixel camera, the option of a white or black body, 16GB or internal memory, and no microSD card slot. Google will offer up to 50GB of free Google Drive storage for Moto X owners for the next two years. The device will not run the latest version of Android, but will instead come with Android 4.2.2, JellyBean out of the box.
