Moto X to be Released Overseas, Executive Hints at Worldwide Launch

The Moto X phone could be released in countries other than the U.S., according to a statement made by a Motorola marketing executive.

"The reception of Moto X has been fantastic and we're continuously perusing opportunities in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) region, so really watch this space," said Marcus Frost to TechRadar recently.

The device's popularity has suffered due to its limited availability. The comment made by Frost could simply be wishful thinking as Motorola has failed to confirm an international roll out for the handset.

The Moto X has only sold 500,000 units in Q3 which is pretty disappointing. A worldwide release would certainly help the device's buzz. Various carriers have also issued price cuts on the Moto X to entice buyers to pick it up. Verizon currently charges $49 for the device and the other carriers have dropped its price down to $99.

Motorola also just opened the Moto Maker customization program to those purchasing the handset on Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint. The feature was an AT&T exclusive up until now.

The Moto X was released in August and features a 4.7-inch screen with a curved back, a 10-megapixel camera, the option of a white or black body, 16GB or internal memory, and no microSD card slot. The device comes with Android 4.2.2, JellyBean out of the box and is expected to receive Android 4.4 KitKat sometime in the near future.

It initially cost $199 with a new contract on major U.S. carriers such as AT&T. The Moto X also comes with the same X8 computing system found on the Droid lines that wowed users when it was first introduced on those devices.

Motorola will also launch a low-end version of the Moto X with the Moto G.
