The Motorola Atrix HD developer edition is now available for $459.99.

Motorola announced that it would be releasing this edition of the smartphone made specifically for developers earlier this month.

This version allows developers to get past the locked bootloader in order to take advantage of the possibilities with an unlocked bootloader.

The developer edition was released today and offers the same specifications as the Atrix HD that is now available through carriers for $99 with a new 2-year agreement.

Motorola warned consumers that this Atrix is "not for the faint of heart" and that "warranties will be voided." The device is expected to ship the week of Dec. 16.

The Motorola Atrix HD smartphone was released on AT&T on July 15 of this year.

The Atrix sports a similar design to the Motorola Droid Razr with its remarkably thin frame at 8.4mm thickness. The device also features a high-tech, invisible nano-coating that acts as a splash guard preventing water damage. This coating is also featured on the electrical circuit boards inside the smartphone.

"Our customers look to their smartphones to provide new, compelling experiences and the Motorola Atrix HD does just that," said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president- Devices, AT&T Mobility. "With features that automatically customize over time to be contextually aware of the user's daily routine and preferences."

The new Atrix will have the ability to perform SMARTACTIONS, with a free app from Motorola carrying the same name that suggests ways to automatically change a user's phone's settings throughout the day to make their lives easier.

An example of this could be with the new Vehicle Navigation Dock accessory and how it allows Atrix owners to enable Drive Smart, an option that will read text messages to the owner aloud, auto-reply to incoming calls and texts, and provide turn-by-turn navigation while they drive.

Other specifications on the Atrix HD include a 4.5-inch HD ColorBoost display that is the highest resolution screen on the market, along with an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video recording.
