Motorola Droid 4 Release Date: New Verizon Smartphone Revealed in Apparent Leak
The latest smartphone model from Verizon Wireless, the Motorola Droid 4, has already been leaked.
Motorola's smartphone, which is codenamed the "Maserati," was displayed in a group of recent photos. The photos reveal the smartphone's thin body shape, keyboard and home screen graphics.
The Droid 4 smartphone's codename is derived from the famous Italian sports car brand, Maserati Gran Turismo.
This new model is now known for being the fourth generation Motorola DROID QWERTY-packing Android smartphone.
Verizon Wireless is said to be the sole carrier of Motorola's new smartphone.
The specifications for the device include a 4-inch screen (Super AMOLED), 1GB of RAM, an ultra-thin Droid RAZR style, 4G LTE support, an 8MP camera with 1080 HD recording, HDMI output and MotoACTV syncing.
The battery will be non-removable, however.
The smartphone will probably operate on a 1.2GHz or 1.5GHz dual-core processor, but these details have not been proven official yet.
The Droid 4 smartphone's keyboard is predicted to feature 5 rows, which makes the device similar to other Motorola smartphones.
Motorola's other smartphone models include the XOOM, DROID Bionic and DROID RAZR.
Google's Android 2.3.5, the Gingerbread operating system, will be compatible with the device.
There is no news yet on whether or not Google's Android 4.0, the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, will eventually come to the Droid 4.
Website Mobot shared thoughts on whether the Droid 4 will appear in the U.K.: "Given the Droid name, this is obviously a US device as that name has never appeared on a Moto phone on these shores, but still, we just hope it deigns to ship it in our direction all the same - whatever it decides to call it."
No details have been released on the smartphone's official release date and pricing. It is expected to come to U.S. regions but no news has been heard on the international release from Verizon Wireless.
Verizon Wireless and its brand of 4G LTE smartphones are steadily increasing in its name value, features and notable specifications. The Droid 4 may continue this trend.
