Movement Calls Out Immaturity in Men, Stresses Christ-Like Masculinity

The Christian Men's Network will be putting on a conference designed to serve as "a radical revolution calling men to a higher standard of masculinity."

Men from around the world will converge in Dallas, Texas, next week to learn how to be "a real man."

For over 30 years, the Christian Men's Network has been a highly effective global movement of pastors and leaders dedicated to training men toward their roles as servant-leaders in their families, church and culture. The network has so far trained over 86,000 leaders in 138 nations. This year, its Lion's Roar Men's Summit will focus on masculinity in men and helping men to govern themselves like Christ so that they can be leaders to others.

"We call ourselves a men's movement versus a men's ministry," CMN President Paul Louis Cole clarified.

Cole says he bases this movement on Timothy 2:2.

"Paul commanded Tim , find faithful men and teach them and they'll be able to teach others. What God is looking for is what every woman is looking for – not a man of great power, but a man who will be faithful. When we develop faithful men, we develop mature men," he said.

CMN was founded by Cole's father, Dr. Edwin Louis Cole, who was compelled to start the movement after writing his book, Maximized Manhood, one of the most widely read books for men in the world. Known to many people at the Father of the Modern Men's Movement, Dr. Cole traveled the world with his book encouraging men to "wake up."

The younger Cole explained that there is a need for teaching leadership and maturity in culture. In dealing with various cultures around the world, he finds that maturity in men is lacking across the board.

"The issue in our culture today is the immaturity in our men," he noted. "To be a real man is to be more like Christ. Jesus was a strong man; he wasn't a wimp man, he wasn't a feminine man, yet he was highly compassionate. The stronger a man is at the core of his character, the more compassionate he can be in the outreach of his hands."

In addition to training men to be leaders, CMN also conducts integrity training for young men. At Dallas public schools, the movement is actively involved in helping young men who lack leaders and father figures in their own homes. Seventy-four percent of the children in public schools in Dallas lack the presence of a father in the home.

Citing a quote in his father's book, Cole said, "When a man acts like a child, it forces his wife, to act like his mother."

He added, "The greatest issue we face in the entire world is fatherlessness. It's a result of immaturity."

The 2010 Lion's Roar Men's Summit will tackle immaturity along with other issues among men cross culturally. Starting Monday, men will look to be transformed into leaders in the home, in their church, at their job, in their communities, and within themselves.

"Strong men make strong families; strong families make strong churches; and strong churches will transform culture," Cole emphasized.
