MTV Movie Award Nominations: Will Your Favorite Film Win?
"Bridesmaids" and "The Hunger Games" are vying to take home the most prizes including Movie of the Year at the annual MTV Movie Awards. The two are nominated for the most awards overall, with heavy competition from the final "Harry Potter" and "The Twilight Saga."
Competitors for Movie of the Year include smash hits such as "Bridesmaids," the recently released "Hunger Games," as well as cult favorites "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" and "Breaking Dawn." The underdog in this category may be the final nominee, which also dominated the box office.
"The Help" certainly gained its own following after the book was published; the movie did well and received four Academy Award nominations for its actresses and Best Picture. Octavia Spencer took home an award for Best Supporting Actress that night, and later the movie went on to win the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast.
With the younger crowd, though, "Hunger Games," or "Breaking Dawn" may stand a better chance.
Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson, Kristin Wiig, Emma Stone, and Rooney Mara ("Girl With the Dragon Tattoo") are all squaring off for Best Female Performance. Again, the best chance may go to a younger actress such as Lawrence, Watson, or Mara.
It's surprising that "Twilight's" Kristen Stewart was not nominated.
Fans will note that Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, Josh Hutcherson, Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt ("50/50") all stand an equal chance at taking home the prize for Best Male Performance. While Radcliffe is among the more memorable names, Hutcherson gave a strong showing in "Hunger Games."
Besides "Bridesmaids," "Hunger Games," "Harry Potter," and "The Help," "21 Jump Street" is hoping to take win the golden popcorn award for Best Cast. This category could go any way, with strong players in each movie and memorable performances. It's a tough call to make.
Melissa McCarthy and Zach Galifianakis ("The Hangover Part II") are the favorites for Best Comedic Performance but will be going up against heavy hitters such as Jonah Hill and Kristen Wiig.
The Best Kiss category, a long-time fan favorite category features kisses from "The Vow," "Hunger Games," "Breaking Dawn," "Harry Potter" and "Crazy, Stupid, Love." Audiences may or may not be surprised by what happens at this year's ceremony, as MTV has traditionally had a laid-back style and "anything goes" attitude.
