Muslim Brotherhood Acting as a 'Bully' in Egypt, Attacking Christians, Sowing Sectarian Unrest, Committee Claims
The Egyptian Committee for the Civil State issued a statement on Monday stating that repeated attacks against Coptic Christians are due to sectarian speeches given by radical Islamists in Rabaa Adaweya Square.
The committee denounced such attacks and sectarian crimes as a "hateful sectarian crisis."
"Everybody is worried about the future of Egypt, in light of the current crisis," the committee said in a statement. "…with the MB acting as a bully, utilizing its armed terrorist affiliations along with some Arab countries."
The Committee called on revolutionary forces to intervene in Sinai in order to protect its land against terrorist organizations that support the Muslim Brotherhood.
"MB leaders and terrorist organizations are attempting to ignite sectarian strife … as they seem to think that sectarian strife is their way out of inevitable contempt by the Egyptian people," the statement added.
The Free Egyptians Party also denounced the state's silence on recent attacks on Copts, which encourages extremists to continue violating citizens' rights and portrays the state and its security institutions as weak.
In a statement issued by the party, it demanded the government apply the law and bring the perpetrators to trial so as to thwart their plans of sowing sedition in Egypt.
The party called on the Egyptian public to "wise up" and prevent the country from being dragged to sectarian strife.
Copts in the village of Beni Ahmed, Upper Egypt, were attacked by a group of Muslims from neighboring villages on Sunday. The crowd destroyed 24 shops, seven houses and nine cars, even attempting to break into the local church. Later, they marched to Reeda village and attacked the local Evangelical church.
