Nashville-based Christian musicians react to school shooting: 'Dear Lord, we need you'
for King & Country
Joel and Luke Smallbone of the Christian rock duo for King & Country issued an urgent call to prayer.
“I don’t know about you, but I fight a feeling of numbness, and the lack of reality to the terror and tragedy and the loss of these events.
But this hits all too close to home, literally. Covenant School used to open their gym to Luke’s basketball team for practices and games, and it’s located less than 15 miles from where Moriah and I live.
I cry writing this, and diverge into feeling helpless … but for HOPE. ... For HOPE that the human heart can change … for HOPE that there is life on the other side of this. And that the six who lost their lives are more free and alive now than they were when they woke up this morning. … For HOPE that there is a brighter future of peace and for the hope of God’s great redemption.
So let’s mourn together, for Tennessee, and America ... but let us do so as those with HOPE ... and let us channel our grief and anger and sadness into a greater sense of LOVE and awareness of those around us. And lastly, let us LOVE with a kind of love that only God can give us. The kind that lays down its life for others.
Grieving with, and praying for the families of all those involved, the Covenant School staff and students. With tears, and with HOPE, in Jesus name."
