'Nashville' Season 2 Spoilers: Scarlett Heads for Disaster, Bringing Rayna With Her?
"Nashville" season two returns to ABC after a month-long hiatus this week with a brand new episode, "Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad."
The new installment to the musical drama will pick up during Scarlett's (Clare Bowen) crisis, and revealing even more spoilers, the television series' creator Callie Khouri discussed Scarlett's state of mind.
"She just - through a combination of pressure and whatever it was that Liam was giving her - had a bad episode in front of a lot of people," she explained to TVLine this week. "She, all along, has felt there there's been this push/pull, wanting to perform and not wanting to perform at the same time. The crowds and the pressure make it more difficult for her."
Furthermore, Khouri revealed that while "nothing is super wrong" for Scarlett, her mother becomes a huge problem.
"We've heard a little bit about it from Deacon but more is revealed about the family that her mom and Deacon grew up in and how that affected her," the creator teased.
As for how Rayna is handling Scarlett's breakdown, Khouri hinted that the fading country music singer has a maternal streak.
"Rayna has put in a lot of time and money already with Scarlett, and to have something like this happen... especially at the point where she's needing everything to go really well... Anything taking away from the focus of [Rayna's new] record and the quality of it would be really detrimental, so she's obviously acutely turned into what's going on with her, because it does affect her," Khouri said of Connie Britton's character. "But more than that, she's known Scarlett since she was a little kid. She doesn't want anything to happen to her, either."
Meanwhile, Khouri previously confirmed that Rayna and Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) would unite onscreen together this season.
"They have such a great chemistry together that their roads will always converge somewhere," she told TVLine earlier this year.
Executive producer Dee Johnson added that the singers on "Nashville" share "a very strange relationship."
"Juliette totally admires Rayna- though she would never say that to her face- and Rayna has been down the road that Juliette is currently on," Johnson explained. "So they will always be crossing paths."
Looking ahead, Khouri assured fans that this year's finale would be a far cry from the over-the-top closing to season one.
"I would imagine we would not go out with a car wreck or anything like that," the creator said, according to TV Line. "We're not going to have an explosion. Nothing like that. Whatever fireworks we go out on this season will all be emotional."
"Nashville" airs on ABC Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST. The synopsis for this week's "Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad" is as follows: "Juliette seeks comfort from Avery after she's blamed for Scarlett's breakdown, but he's too busy helping Scarlett, so Juliette turns to her nemesis. Elsewhere, Layla makes plans to star in a reality show, and she wants Will to costar with her."
Fans can also look forward to Michelle Obama guest-starring on an episode of this season of "Nashville."
