'Nashville' Season 6 News: Charles Esten Previews Deacon's Relationship With Jessie

"Nashville" season 6 is only two weeks away, which means fans are a lot closer to finding out whether Deacon (Charles Esten) ends up with Jessie (Kaitlin Doubleday).

Deacon has always been the one for Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton), but fate had other plans. In season 5, Rayna suffered a car crash and, ultimately, died from her injuries. Her death understandably left a scar in Deacon, who spent most of season 6 trying to accept the facts and learning to live without her. While getting over the death of a loved one is certainly hard, it looks like Jessie might make things easier.

In the trailer, Deacon and Jessie were seen sharing a kiss and holding hands. Esten also teased in a preview what may be in store for his character. More recently, CMT released a "Character Catch-Up" featuring Esten, who explains the chemistry between Deacon and Jessie.

"We got to see Deacon and Jesse getting reacquainted. They knew each other years ago," he said. "You can tell there's some sort of attraction or some sort of draw towards each other, but what does this mean?"

However, Maddie (Maisy Stella) does not seem to approve of Deacon's potential new relationship. In the trailer, she can be seen crying and expressing her dislike of Jessie. "I want him to be happy, but I hate this," Maddie says. "And I hate her."

Apart from a lot of personal drama, there will also be new music for fans to enjoy. Interesting musical partnerships will be formed, including one among Gunnar (Sam Palladio), Will (Chris Carmack), and Avery (Jonathan Jackson).

"We have some surprises," creator Callie Khouri previously said. "There's some new musical configurations that are gonna be really exciting."

The sixth and final season of "Nashville" will premiere on Thursday, Jan. 4, on CMT.
