Naughty Dog Hints at Not Releasing 'Uncharted 5' Anymore as They Share Details on 'Uncharted: The Lost Legacy's' Gameplay
There are good and bad news for "Uncharted" fans. The good news is more details about the "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy's" gameplay are now out. However, it is possibly the last title for the entire franchise – meaning there might not be an "Uncharted 5" anymore.
Evan Wells, co-president at Naughty Dog, was pretty direct when he talked about the studio's plans for the "Uncharted" franchise during an interview with Game Informer magazine.
Wells said, "I would say that Naughty Dog doing an Uncharted after this is unlikely." On a good note, though, the development of "The Last of Us Part II" is one major reason why Naughty Dog might be closing the chapters for "Uncharted."
The game studio executive added: "I would never say never, but we've got The Last of Us Part II on our plates and there's so much other stuff that [we want to explore]. It'd be hard. If we magically had that two-team, three-team studio, sure – it'd be great to keep doing it. We really love the franchise, but the studio has limited resources and lots of other ideas. I'd say the likelihood is low."
On the other hand, according to the same Game Informer magazine interview that was likewise reported on by GameSpot, game designer James Cooper also teased fans that "The Lost Legacy" is going to feature one of the biggest levels they created for the "Uncharted" franchise. The developer added that the Western Ghats mountain range setting for "The Lost Legacy" is more extensive than the gameplay located in Madagascar that was featured in "Uncharted 4."
Meanwhile, game director Kurt Margenau said that with the size of the Western Ghats level, players will have more paths to explore.
Cooper then added that aside from its size, the Western Ghats also stands out with a great environment that features waterfalls, mud climbs, boulders, and more.
On the other hand, while players saw Drake keep a journal where he writes his daily activities, the "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy" protagonist, Chloe, has her own way of remembering things and it is more technologically advanced – with a mobile phone.
