Navigators Gears Up for One of CCM's Largest Festivals
In conjunction with Spirit West Coast, The Navigators is holding a Summer Missions Programs to train and challenge young believers in witnessing for the upcoming events.
One of contemporary Christian musics largest festivals is coming to San Diego for a third straight year, May 26-28, and along with the tens of thousands of people expected to attend will be a group of The Navigators trained to guide hundreds of new believers at the altar call.
Last year, over 50,000 fans attended the Spirit West Coast festival at the Del Mar grounds with some 400 dedicating themselves to Christ over the three days of top Christian music. The Navigators was on scene with around 60 missions program participants leading others to Christ. This year, the campus group is recruiting believers to join the outreach effort.
In conjunction with Spirit West Coast, The Navigators is holding Summer Missions Programs to train and challenge young believers in witnessing for the upcoming events. In addition to witnessing, participants gain leadership skills and learn from gifted spiritual leaders as they ready themselves to face an often seeking crowd.
Large crowds were met with 18 altar calls last year, including one emotional call that drew tears from the audience. Joseph Rojas, lead singer for Seventh Day Slumber, told the thousands of people about his own suicidal attempt and broken life. Hands went up as more than a hundred admitted to the same attempt in recent weeks. And many of them came forward to the stage where they were led by The Navigators-trained believers who came from six military bases and seven college campuses. The missions program participants had, in many cases, never led anyone to Christ before.
The training program is open to anyone aged 18-35 years, from college students to married couples and active duty military nationwide. The Navigators expects over 50 participants. The program requires hours in preparation and daily set-up for the huge events.
Past participants gave positive feedback to the program with some having attended the festival as part of the crowd the first year and returning the second year as a believer leading others to Christ.
The Spirit West Coast festivals are presented by Christian Music Today! and produced by Celebration Concerts. For the first time, the Del Mar festival will hold an opening night welcome banquet and an Indie artist showcase by America's Christian Music Showcase.
