NBA 2016-17 Season News and Player Predictions: Mavs Banking on Seth Curry Progression; Investment Ahead of Nowitzki Retirement

Seth Curry is probably one of the underrated prospects in the upcoming NBA 2016-17 season. It is not an issue with Dallas Mavericks who plans to hone pick-and-rolls with Steph's younger brother. The Mavs are right on track to field in Seth this season with a two-year $6 million contract.

Dallas Mavericks had Curry's limited sample

Admittedly, Seth Curry has limited exposure in his blossoming NBA career. Some fans are not convinced that he can play in the elite level, thanks to constant comparison with his brother Stephen Curry.

The biggest set-up for Seth are eleven games with the Mavericks last season where he finished a decent average of 15.2 points and 3.8 assists. One interesting fact about this stat is the 48.4 percent accuracy from the arc. This means that he can pull out deadly threes if given proper guidance and enough chance. To add up in his limited sample, Curry played a dual point and shooting guard positions.

Three-point shooting efficiency

Since it is obvious that efficiency from the three-point arc is a common trend among NBA squads nowadays, Seth can fit in. An educated analysis can also show that Seth can be ranked as one of the triggermen of the league. The only limitation to properly induct him is this limited game exposure.

Early in 2015-16 season, Seth has better exposure with the Sacramento Kings. He played for an average of 15 minutes per game on the rotation squad. The only drawback with the team is the on and off performance in total of 44 games. However, he was still able to make 45 percent of his three-point attempts with the Kings.

There is an offer to re-sign him for a minimum $1 million. However, Seth ended in the free agency instead where Dallas quickly picked him up.

Building talents around Dirk Nowitzki

Basketball fans have to admit that retirement is nearing for the great Dirk Nowitzki. 2015-16 is supposed to be his last season but averted with an extension. The Mavs patched up with acquisition of young talents.

The addition of Seth Curry in the lineup may not be to replace the high-barometer that Nowitzki will leave. Remember that they are playing a different position with Nowitzki standing to defend the rim. Seth can however fill the gap in the outside offense to free Deron Williams of some pressure.

Now, within this framework, the Mavs will look more likely a fast squad this season. Seth, Williams and AJ Barea are sure to push these fast-paced games.
