NBA 2K17 Latest News and Teaser: Early Tip-Off Weekend, Digital Release, New Kobe Bryant Teaser, MyLeague and MyGM
NBA 2K17 once again shows why 2K Sports produces the best basketball video games. The official release of the game is just a few days away, but fans who pre-ordered the game can get it before Saturday.
Early Tip-Off Weekend
NBA 2K17 will be officially released on September 20, 2016, but Early Tip-Off Weekend allows excited fans to get the game at an earlier date. Even earlier than Early Tip-Off, 2K fans got a game demo last week called The Prelude, which was for free.
Early Tip-Off Weekend is a pre-order of NBA 2K17 which allows buyers to get the game on September 16. Some stores in the United States, like Best Buy, are giving out the pre-ordered NBA 2K17s as early as September 15. To know which Best Buy stores do this, click here.
You can get a 20 percent discount on Best Buy if you are a member of Games Club Unlocked.
GameStop will follow suit and open on the September 15 as well. GameStop even adds a bonus; for every pre-order NBA 2K17 purchase, you get a free pack of Mike and Ike and Hot Tamales candy for free.
Digital Release
Aside from physical copies of the game, NBA 2K17 will also have a digital release through PlayStation and Xbox. To get the game early, both gaming companies have what are called Pre-downloads, which were made available on September 14, but will be unlocked on September 16.
One advantage of getting the digital release is that you don't have to go to a physical store and wait in line to get your copy.
New Kobe Bryant Teaser
In the latest NBA 2K17 teaser, Kobe Bryant joins actor Michael B. Jordan to promote this year's version of the MyCareer mode. The video shows Jordan and Bryant standing on a basketball court, addressing the audience as they talked about Kobe Bryant's career. Hologram effects show Bryant's achievements (and one blooper scene) throughout his illustrious NBA career.
NBA 2K17 MyCareer is much better than its predecessor in many ways. According to Matt Bertz of Game Informer, "Unlike the uneven Spike Lee offering last year, this year's MyCareer puts less of an emphasis on off-the-court drama and focuses more on interactions with teammates, coaches, and other players in the league."
MyLeague and MyGM
Most basketball video game aficionados agree; last year's 2K MyGM and MyLeague are already quite deep. But this year, 2K Sports puts a lot more detail to these two modes.
Now, you can have as much as 36 teams in your own fully customizable league. Teams can be relocated to different conferences as well. 2K Sports also added other new features such as the ability to retire jersey numbers, scouting logic, and new options for trading.
