'NBA 2K18' News: Switch Owners Will Need a microSD Card to Download the Game

The microSD card is required regardless of whether players are getting the digital or physical edition

The digital version of "NBA 2K18" is out now for the Nintendo Switch, but for those basketball fans who may not have gotten it just yet, they may want to be aware of one particular requirement.

As it turns out, the latest installment of the "NBA 2K" franchise is a pretty hefty offering, so hefty that the Nintendo Switch on its own is apparently not capable of storing the entirety of it.

That is why the folks over at Nintendo have made it known to prospective players that they must first have a microSD card before they can enjoy this game on the platform.

A page on Nintendo's support site explains why players are required to have a microSD card.

In order to successfully download the game, players will need 6.8 GB available for the initial software download. On top of that, there is also another software update that takes up 16.1 GB and an extra 5 GB of system memory is required per save file.

All of that adds up to just a little under 28 GB, which is an issue since, as Game Informer pointed out, the Switch itself really offers only around 26 GB of memory.

Taking all of that into consideration, it should probably come as no surprise that a microSD card is a requirement for any Switch owner looking to get "NBA 2K18."

Notably, the microSD card is required not just for the digital version of the game.

As is also noted in that aforementioned Nintendo support page, the microSD card is still a requirement even if fans are planning to get the physical version.

Also, for those interested, the physical version of the latest "NBA 2K" game will be released for the Switch on Oct. 17, according to Nintendo of Europe.

More news about "NBA 2K18" should be made available in the near future.
