And for those who can soar high and finish hard around the rim, the Slam Dunk Contest is where they can do that.

Many stars started their legendary careers with titles in the Slam Dunk Contest – namely Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and others. Now, four players are going to take the stage to try and lift the title.

The roster begins with the defending champion, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine.

Trying to be the first man since Nate Robinson in 2010 to defend his title, LaVine is a second-year player from UCLA.

He showcased his excellent jumping ability last year as he blew away the competition to win the title.

Many still believe that he is the favourite to win this year as he glides effortlessly towards the rim and has the creativity to finish above the rim.

Challenging him this year are two big men and another high-flying guard – beginning with Will Barton of the Denver Nuggets.

The guard is an up-and-coming player who has shown that he has a spot in the league. Outside from being a capable guard, he can also finish around the basket. Barton may defy the odds and surprise fans with flashy dunks.

From the Orlando Magic, Aaron Gordon will also take part in the competition. He is a big player who can finish strong and is known to dunk with confidence and power. Many will look out for what Gordon can bring to the table.

Finally, the Detroit Pistons will be represented by Andre Drummond. Drummond is the tallest competitor in the contest but his combination of height and leaping ability should result in an entertaining the fans.
