NBA News 2016: Injured Stephen Curry Hopes to Be Get Back by May 9th
Reigning Most Valuable Player and Golden State Warriors superstar guard Stephen Curry is optimistic that he will be back by May 9th, their team's scheduled fourth game against the Portland Trailblazers.
Curry suffered an ankle injury during Game Four, after a bad fall during halftime where he slipped on a wet spot on the floor. In a report by SBNation, he was having a "quiet" showing during the first half before he was hurt, playing a mere 19 minutes, scoring six points, along with five assists, shooting 2 out of 9 from the field.
He did come back for the second half, but was struggling during warm-ups, which prompted the coaching staff to replace him with Shaun Livingston. Despite Curry's absence, the Warriors were able to close out the series, 4-0, winning the game with a final score of 121-94.
They are currently matched-up against the Portland Trailblazers, and are leading the series so far, with a 1-0 edge.
In an MRI released early last week, it was concluded that Curry had suffered a Grade 1 sprain, with his doctors giving him clearance to play after two weeks. But for his part, Curry says he hopes to be back sooner than later, targeting May 9th as his return date.
"Feeling better but just got a ways to go. I always have an optimistic view, no matter what it is. I hope to get back sooner," Curry said in an ESPN report. "I haven't talked to the doctors, athletic training staff, all the experts. That two-week timeline was, as Bob (Myers, GM) says, an educated guess."
In another ESPN report, Curry has resumed some light training with no movement from his injured right knee. According to head coach Steve Kerr, they will be closely looking out for their superstar's physical condition in the coming days.
"We'll just monitor him and see how it goes and hopefully get him back at some point," Kerr said. "It's nice to have that long break between 2 and 3."
