NBA News 2016: Warriors' Draymond Green Says Michael Urged Him To Break 1995 Chicago Bulls Record
Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green claims basketball legend Michael Jordan had one request for him and his team coming into the tail end of the season.
According to a report by Cameron DaSilva for FOX Sports, Green says Jordan came up to him during the NBA All-Star Weekend last February bearing one request: for the current Warriors team to topple the record set by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls team.
The said team which was led by Jordan, and had current Warriors head coach Steve Kerr on its roster, ended the season with a record-setting 72-10 win-loss slate.
"Mike told me at All-Star, 'Go win the record. Go get the record. If y'all don't win this record, I'm going to be hot and I'm blaming you,'" Green was quoted saying.
The defending champion Warriors have put up an impressive record for the season, so far. On Sunday night, they were able to clinch victory number 72 against the second-seeded San Antonio Spurs at home, ending the game with a final score of 92-86.
And for Green, the experience was nothing less than satisfying, mainly for having achieved a feat at home, in front of their adoring fans.
"Feels great," Green said in a post-game interview. "That's something I wanted bad, and I voiced it, and for these guys to stand up and not make me look like an idiot is great. 73 is gonna feel a lot better."
"To do it at home, in front of our fans, they've been there through everything with us," he continued. "To try and bring this record back to them, they deserve it."
Golden State now holds record of 72-9, and will be playing their final regular season game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, April 13th, at home. A victory for them officially makes them the team that holds the best record in NBA regular season history with 73-9.
