NBA Trade Rumors: Can Portland Trail Blazers Still Convince Carmelo Anthony to Join Them?
Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard shared that Anthony 'didn't seem opposed' to the possibility of playing for the team
Carmelo Anthony being traded by the New York Knicks seemed like such a sure thing heading into the summer, and yet, with the 2017-18 NBA season almost here, he is still a member of the team.
The inactivity on the Anthony front is somewhat surprising, and it is anyone's guess as to when and how it will end.
It does not look like the situation involving Anthony is really moving towards any kind of resolution, but it could reach that point if the Portland Trail Blazers had their way.
Over the course of the past few months, the Trail Blazers along with the Houston Rockets have emerged as the two teams who remain interested in bringing Anthony onboard.
Recent rumors have hinted that Anthony is willing to sign off on a trade that would send him to Houston, but the likely reason behind why that has not come to pass just yet may be due to the team lacking the assets needed to swing a deal that the Knicks like.
The same cannot necessarily be said for the Trail Blazers, which makes their pursuit of Anthony so interesting.
Though they may not be as asset-rich as some of the other teams in the league, the Trail Blazers may still have enough in their war chest to at least outdo any offer from the Rockets.
On top of that, it even looks like the team's players are doing what they can to convince Anthony that moving to Portland may work out for him.
It may even be working, with Blazers' guard Damian LIllard recently telling The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears that Anthony "didn't seem opposed" to the notion of joining the team back when the two of them talked.
At the very least, it looks like the Trail Blazers have positioned themselves as an ideal trading partner for the Knicks and as a good team to join for Anthony. Whether all of that leads to a completed deal between the Trail Blazers and the Knicks remains uncertain, however, and this situation will just have to be something NBA fans watch closely moving forward.
