NBA Trade Rumors: What the Philadelphia 76ers Want in Exchange for Jahlil Okafor
76ers moving Okafor now looking like a lock after team declined his 2018-19 contract option
If there was ever any doubt that the Philadelphia 76ers were going to trade Jahlil Okafor, what little trace of it that may have remained was wiped away just recently.
Not long after the 76ers declined Okafor's contract option for the 2018-19 season, the latest rumblings are now hinting that the franchise is focused on finding a workable trade involving the young big man.
In a recent report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the 76ers may have even already pinpointed exactly what they want in exchange for Okafor, with those being future second-round picks.
If the 76ers really are looking for just second-round picks for Okafor, then that should make executing a deal involving Okafor more realistic this season.
Okafor's stock has fallen precipitously since being taken third overall in the 2015 NBA Draft, but he has still flashed enough ability to get other teams interested in acquiring him at a bargain price.
While Okafor may not be one of those modern bigs capable of splashing three-pointers home and swatting shots at the basket, he can still fill a role for a few teams in the league.
According to Basketball-Reference, Okafor is shooting well over 50 percent for his career while notching nearly 15 points per contest as an old-school back to the basket center.
Big men who do their damage primarily from the post may no longer be as sought after as they once were, but they can still help teams out as supplemental players or even as go-to scorers for bench units. That should make Okafor a bit more appealing to at least some NBA teams.
Plus, given that Okafor is just 21 years old, that may make some teams more willing to take a chance on him in the hopes that he may benefit from a change of scenery.
The 76ers have not traded away Okafor just yet, but that should happen sooner rather than later.
