NBA Trade Rumors: Will the New York Knicks Be Making Deals This Upcoming Season?

Knicks may have too many big men currently on the roster

The New York Knicks are still fresh from making a blockbuster deal, but it may not be long before the team will have to trade someone from the roster yet again.

As NJ.com's Joe Giglio pointed out in a recent article, the Knicks' roster now features an abundance of big men.

Minutes distribution still has to be done properly even on a likely lottery team like the Knicks, so spreading out the available playing time in the frontcourt to as many as five different players who can be considered as centers is not ideal.

So which center will the Knicks trade?

Kristaps Porzingis and Willy Hernangomez are likely to remain on the roster, considering their high upsides and affordable contracts.

Recently acquired Enes Kanter could be a candidate for a trade, but then again, he is also young enough that he may still have some potential left to tap into. On a team not exactly filled with talented young players, Kanter may be someone worth taking a closer look at as opposed to trading.

That would leave Joakim Noah and Kyle O'Quinn as the big men that the Knicks may benefit from dealing.

In an ideal world for the Knicks, Noah will probably be the player they trade. Noah peaked as an MVP candidate back when he was a member of the Chicago Bulls. Injuries have hampered his play in recent years, however, and he was not able to contribute much to the Knicks last season as well. Given that Noah is signed through the 2019-20 season for big money, the Knicks will be hard pressed to find a taker for him.

That leaves O'Quinn as the big man the Knicks could deal this upcoming season. O'Quinn is far from being a star, but he is a solid enough role player and his contract is reasonable enough that a big man-needy team would probably give up some nice assets for him.

There is a logjam in the Knicks' frontcourt currently, but that may not remain true throughout the 2017-18 season.
