NBC Axelrod Deal: David Axelrod Joins as Senior Political Analyst
NBC News has hired David Axelrod as a new Senior Political Analyst, according to a release by the network on Tuesday.
Axelrod is best known for being the long-time strategist for President Barack Obama, and also a former White House senior adviser. It has been announced that he will be joining NBC News and MSNBC as a "senior political analyst," according to a joint network announcement on Tuesday.
The announcement by the networks explained that Axelrod "will contribute frequently across all broadcasts and platforms of both networks."
Prior to getting involved in professional politics, Axelrod previously worked as a reporter for the Chicago Tribune, and so should be returning to familiar territory in the newsroom.
The joint NBC/MSNBC announcement stated: "For nearly three decades, Axelrod guided successful campaigns at every level on the ballot. He began his career as a journalist, spending eight years as a political writer, columnist and City Hall bureau chief for the Chicago Tribune before stepping into politics in 1984.
"He founded Axelrod and Associates, a political and media consulting firm which became AKPD Message and Media. He later founded the communications management firm ASGK Public Strategies.
"Axelrod, an alumnus of the University of Chicago, was recently named director of the university's new Institute of Politics, and as a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Harris School of Public Policy. He previously worked as an Adjunct Professor of Communication Studies at Northwestern University."
Axelrod is known for being a top political advisor to former President Bill Clinton, before going on to be the campaign advisor to President Barack Obama during his successful run for presidency in 2008.
Following Obama's election, Axelrod was then appointed as the Senior Advisor to the President.
However, he left the White House position in early 2011 and went on to become the Senior Strategist for President Obama's successful re-election campaign in 2012.
