In their first match of the tournament, they were given Lafayette. They had little trouble dispatchcing the underdogs 93-52.
Six players scored in double figures for Villanova who werer dominant throughout the game.
Dylan Ennis scored 16, while going 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Ryan Arcidiacono was stellar as he had 13 points while also dishing out six assists in only 26 minutes on the floor.
Kris Jenkins was a spark from the bench with 10 points as the Wildcats shot 63% from the field.
They also converted on half of their three point attempts as they cruised to the victory.
Aside from their effective offense, Villanova also limited Lafayette to only shooting 38% from the field.
The underdogs only converted 4-of-18 from the three point line as the game went out of hand early in the first half.
For the NC State Wolfpack, they had a harder time against their second round opponent as they had to resort to a buzzer beater from BeeJay Anya to beat the LSU Tigers66-65.
Scoring only two baskets late in the game, Anya scored a tip-in to trim LSU's lead to one point and then finished things off with a left-handed hook for the victory.
The forward finished the game with four points but pulled down seven rebounds to help the team. Anthony Barber scored a team high 17 points, while Abdul-Malik Abu had 13 in 29 minutes on the floor.
NC State held LSU to 40% from the field with sturdy defence that helped them overcome the ninth seed.
Undoubtedly, they will need more production if they want to upset Villanova.
