'NCIS: New Orleans' News: Episode 9 'Chasing Ghosts' Recap, Episode 10 Plot

It was a "Quantum Leap" reunion on "NCIS: New Orleans" last Tuesday as Scott Bakula is reunited with Dean Stockwell, who guest stars as Tom Hamilton. In the episode, a cold case is reopened after a stolen Navy-issued gun is found to belong to a Chief Petty Officer who died 40 years ago.

In the episode titled "Chasing Ghosts" a stolen gun is found to belong to Chief Petty Officer Jacob Tarlow who died 40 years ago. He was part of the Navy and he actively recruited African Americans into joining the navy, which didn't make him very popular. The KKK also tried to make things difficult for him.

Jacob and a few of his friends were fighting off some members of the KKK when they got separated from each other. The next morning, Jacob was found strung from a tree. There was no investigation, and his death was ruled as a suicide.

Years later, Dr. Wade took up his case. Now, Jacob's widow is dying of cancer and insists that Jacob brought his gun with him that night before he was found dead. Pride and Wade got permission to dig up Jacob's body to investigate, but someone filed an injunction to stop them from exhuming the body.

The team goes to the FBI to look into their records, and one of the men's accomplices who beat up Tarlow is Tom Hamilton, Councilman Douglas Hamilton's father.

Though Tom admitted that he felt people like Jacob and those he was trying to recruit were beneath him, he said that he didn't murder the man. Douglas also gave the team his father's DNA, and it didn't match the blood they had from the culprit.

Then Wade got to thinking and remembered that Jacob's friend, Paul, was the last person to see him before he died. Paul even delivered Jacob's diary to the police, and the last entries indicated that he was being targeted.

It turns out that it was Paul who wrote those entries and that he killed his friend and covered it up. His motive was that he always liked Jacob's wife, and wanted him out of the way. But though he proposed to Hannah Tarlow over and over again, she never forgot her husband and raised their daughter by herself. Paul will be court martialed for murder, and Hannah will be counting the days until she will be reunited with Jacob again.

On the next episode of "NCIS: New Orleans," Pride will turn to his friend Agent Gibbs for help with a case. Here is the synopsis for episode 10, titled "Breaking Brig."

"An armored transport bus carrying Naval brig detainees crashes and four prisoners escape, including a black market broker who is one of the country's biggest security threats. Pride turns to Gibbs for assistance when a case file needed for the investigation is full of redactions," the synopsis reads.

"NCIS: New Orleans" airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on CBS.
