"Not only will I be shining a spotlight on the best that Broadway has to offer, but hopefully I'll score some free house seats to a show- or five," said the 38-year-old actor.

Harris previously hosted the Tony's in 2009, the same year he hosted the primetime Emmy Awards. He hosted the Tony Awards again in 2010.

"We're excited to be working once again with the extremely talented Neil Patrick Harris," said Tony Awards executive producers Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss in a statement.

"Last year's show was such a success and we can't wait to bring it to new heights this year," the producers added.

Well-known for his role as Barney Stinson on "How I Met Your Mother," Harris was named as one of Time magazine's most influential people in 2010, and he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last year.

The New Mexico native began his career as a child actor. Harris has worked on Broadway in both musical and dramatic roles, and is a talented singer.

In 2010, Harris appeared on an episode of Fox's "Glee," for which he earned an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series as well as a People's Choice nomination.

He has also appeared in films such as "Beastly," "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs," the "Harold and Kumar" movies and "The Next Best Thing."

Last year's Tony Awards telecast saw 6.9 million viewers. The 2012 Tony Awards will air on CBS at 8 p.m. EST June 10.
