NeNe Leakes Updates: Reality Star Apologizes for Wishing Rape on Audience Member During Stand-Up Routine
NeNe Leakes should have known better, as she said so herself. The "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star apologized to a female audience member who she wished rape on.
Perhaps it's just not her night, but Leakes was getting booed onstage during her turn at the mic on "Girls Nite Out for Laughs" stand-up comedy show last Saturday, Oct. 7. The reality star made a scene at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, California when she wished rape on a female heckler in the crowd, as recapped by Entertainment Tonight.
Leakes told the audience member that she wished her Uber driver would rape her on the way home — a reply that did not go over well in the already tough crowd that night.
She would later take to social media on Monday to post a public apology after she had time to mull things over. On her Facebook post, Leakes told readers that she regrets the things she said that weekend.
"I truly regret and apologize for what I said from the stage in Oakland over the weekend," she wrote in her message. "Sometimes words can cut deep and hurt when you have no intentions of them doing so," she explained.
"As a woman and someone who has survived abuse, I regret the words that I used. I made a mistake and I should have known better," Leakes added, before apologizing: "I hope people accept my deepest and sincerest apologies. I am sorry."
It's a great development for the "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star, but she might have plenty of opportunities to get used to apologizing in the show's new season. Weeks before the show was due to air, she was already feuding with fellow housewife Kim Zolciak-Biermann.
NeNe Leakes looks like she's just getting started, as the teaser trailer for the show's new season hints at below. "Real Housewives of Atlanta" season 10 premieres on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo TV.
