New Campaign to End Bible Poverty Uses Smartphone App

The Seed Company, accelerated bible translation organization, unveiled its “Campaign to End Bible Poverty”; a new initiative designed to motivate Americans to help the spiritual impoverishment affecting millions of people worldwide.

According to the company’s website its mission is to accelerate Scripture translation and impact for people without God’s Word – using the Bible to transform lives in every language, through Great Commission partnerships.

To help carry out this new movement The Seed Company released a free web-based “Sacrificial Giving” App for smartphones, accessible on Apple and Android platforms. The app allows users to track whatever they are sacrificing and logs how much is being given.

For example people could choose to give up coffee, pizza, new clothes, etc. and the Sacrificial Giving App offers the chance to watch in real time as “your gifts become verses for a people who have never had Scripture in their own language,” the website stated.

"The Seed Company has helped nearly 700 people groups in 84 countries receive God's Word for the first time in their language," said Roy Peterson, president of The Seed Company, in a press release.

Peterson added, “Between first-hand knowledge and proven research, we have long realized the need for a campaign to end Bible poverty."

There are two major causes of Bible poverty The Seed Company has identified: access to scripture is the first. There are 340 million people around the world living without God’s word in their own language and hundreds of millions more who have limited access in oral cultures.

The second cause is oppression – there are many governments and cultures where people are prohibited from accessing the Holy Word.

According to The Seed Company, the drive to raise awareness of Bible poverty cannot be done alone.

"By uniting faith and technology, we now have a phone application that will give Americans the ability to help fulfill the Great Commission -- right at their fingertips," Peterson stated.

"For the price of a cup of coffee, we can collectively help transform millions of lives."

The Seed Company was founded by Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1993 and has become the fastest-growing Bible translation organization in the world with almost 700 projects underway or completed.
