A new children’s book designed to counter the increasing prevalence of progressive children’s literature has become Amazon’s No. 1 new release in early childhood education.

The ABC’s of Morality, written by Canadian political commentator, documentary filmmaker and YouTube personality Lauren Southern and illustrated by George Alexopoulos, was published Wednesday. Southern announced on Thursday that less than one day after its publication, the book had reached “the top 20 in US new releases … and # 1 in children’s values new releases.”

Southern’s Facebook post included a screenshot of her book, which was listed at No. 1 on Amazon’s list of “Movers & Shakers in Books.” She remarked that her book’s popularity on Amazon was “movin' and shakin' up this progressive literature craze.”

A description of the book on its back cover says: “While society has progressed, it seems we’ve left behind the basic building blocks of our civilization – our morals. We know how to cure disease, Tik Tok, Zoom and even how to fly to the moon, but do we know how to be humble? Do we know how to think for ourselves? The ABC’s of Morality is a fun, wholesome primer on basic concepts of politics and soul that are too often forgotten in our confusing modern world. This book is written and illustrated for readers of all ages to enjoy!”

Southern shared some of the lessons of her book on her Twitter page Thursday. “The ABC’s of Morality was created to combat the woke takeover of children’s literature with wholesomeness instead,” she said. “It’s okay to be masculine! Bravery is good! Don’t fall for the trap of group think. Pursue virtue & wisdom!”

In a separate tweet, Southern expressed a desire to make it on the Amazon Book Review’s list of the Best Children’s Books of 2021. A picture of some of the Amazon Book Review’s best children’s books of 2020, which included a children’s book called Antiracist Baby by Ibram X. Kendi, accompanied the tweet. She described her book as an effort to “turn this clown world train around.”

Additionally, Southern posted excerpts of the book in responses to other people’s tweets. One of the ABC’s of Morality lessons declares that “F is for Femininity.” Another page in her book proclaims that “V is for Virtue,” defining the word as “the choice to be good in the choices you make.”

The page of the book dedicated to virtue lists “being brave, being generous, (and) standing for justice” as well as “charisma and friendliness,” “moderation, patience, and humility,” “liberality, humor, and honesty,” and modesty and ambition all as virtues that should “be loved and acclaimed.” When announcing that “G is for Groupthink,” Southern encouraged the reader to “think for yourself.”

The section on “T is for Tyranny” explains the concept of tyranny as “when folks with power get nasty,” adding, “Tyrants promise the world but you hold the bill, which is why you should not bend to a tyrant’s will.” When a critic of Southern suggested that in her book “H is for hating minorities because empathy is for Libtards,” she remarked that her book actually teaches that “H is for Humility.”

In a Nov. 17 YouTube video titled “If You Don’t Raise Your Kids, Someone Else Will,” Southern warned that “There is this idea going around that parents should just stand back and not have any input in their children’s thoughts, ideologies and the way that they see the world. Otherwise, you’re indoctrinating your kids and forcing your view on them.” She characterized that notion as “absurd.”

Throughout the video, Southern promoted her previous children’s book called Henry the Sheepdog & the Wolf of Mossville. She also highlighted some examples of progressive literature, including the books, A is For Activist and Woke Baby, when detailing the widespread effort to “sell your kids some sort of idea” and “bring your child into their cult (and) into their ideology.”

Prior to taking a break from the public eye to get married and have a child, Southern developed a reputation as a critic of progressive ideology that contends gender is a social construct and that there is a wide spectrum of genders beyond male and female. In 2016, Southern legally changed her gender to male in a YouTube video demonstrating the ease in which one can have their gender changed in Canada. Earlier that year, she had urine thrown on her after declaring that “there’s only two genders … female and male.”
