New England Patriots NFL Trade and Roster Rumors: Dion Lewis Drawing Trade Interest
New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis seems to be drawing a lot of interest in the trade market lately.
According to the Boston Herald's Stephen Hewitt and Jeff Howe, several teams have reached out to the Patriots to inquire about the availability of Lewis, but the team doesn't seem to be interested in moving him right now.
"Multiple squads reached during the offseason, including as recently as the past week, to express their interest in Dion Lewis, according to sources," Hewitt and Howe wrote in their report.
"The Patriots haven't been willing to bite on these conversations, though it seems possible their tenor could change by the Oct. 31 trade deadline. It's necessary to point out the Pats haven't been shopping Lewis, but other teams are the ones making the calls," they added.
Having a loaded offensive backfield is a pretty nice luxury to have for any team in the National Football League (NFL). However, the Patriots will have to realize that they are going to have a hard time balancing the workload of their four running backs.
Lewis didn't really see much action against the Kansas City Chiefs last week. He only played a total of six snaps on offense and he carried two times for nine yards in the game.
With James White, Mike Gillislee and Rex Burkhead ahead of him on the depth chart, the seventh-year pro likely won't get much time on the field this season, and if he's deemed expendable, the Patriots may be willing to trade him.
Of course, it should be noted that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has never been afraid to play different guys in different situations, so Lewis may get the chance to play significant minutes next time. Right now, the Patriots still have a lot of time to experiment and they are not going to let other teams pressure them into making a move.
