New England Patriots NFL Trade Rumors: Adrian Peterson Would Consider Pay Cut to Sign With Patriots
Adrian Peterson may be way past his prime, but he's still going to be one of the most sought-after running backs in the free agent market. He should have a number of options to choose from for his next stop and one of them may give him the best chance at getting that elusive Super Bowl ring.
Citing a source close to Peterson, Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald said the running back wants to join the New England Patriots and he's willing to take a pay cut to sign with them.
"A source close to Peterson told the Herald that since AP has already earned a ton — more than $97 million is his career — it's certainly something he'd consider. Peterson knows how it worked out for Darrelle Revis and Chris Long. But naturally, there will be a lot of teams in the mix, including the Vikings. And, of course, the Pats would have to want to bring in an aging back with an injury history, not to mention baggage," Guregian said in her report.
Any ring-chasing veteran would love to sign with the Patriots. The question is, do they want him? The Patriots do need to fill the void left behind by LeGarrette Blount once he enters free agency, so there's a chance of this happening. However, ProFootballTalk has reported that the team has yet to discuss a deal with Peterson and they are not expected to pursue him.
NFL.com's Mike Garafolo also reported the same thing, so the chances of Peterson signing with the Patriots are pretty slim right now. The team has always done well without an elite running back anyway.
Aside from the fact that he's coming off an injury, Peterson also carries a lot of negative baggage that the Patriots will have to deal with if they sign him. He's probably not the running back they are looking for right now.
