New Girl Scout Cookie for 2012

There is a new Girl Scout cookie for 2012, the organization has revealed. The Savannah Smile is a tribute to the Girl Scout’s beginnings in Savannah, Georgia.

There are currently 11 varieties of Girl Scout cookies, and the website states: “Every cookie has a mission to help girls do great things.” Selling cookies is one way to teach girls responsibility, social and business skills and encourage them to be productive. Funds are used to help the larger Girl Scout program and can also be used by individual troops for community service.

The Savannah Smile is specifically named for founder Juliette Gordon Low’s hometown. Thousands of Girl Scouts visit Low’s home in Savannah every year, and her home has been named a National Historic Landmark. Low founded the Girl Scouts in 1912 in order to teach and empower young girls. As of 2010, there were over 2 million scouts.
