'New Girl' Season 5 Cast News, Update: Megan Fox Cast As New Roommate
"Transformers" star Megan Fox is set to join in the fifth season of Fox's hit sitcom TV series "New Girl" as a new roommate in the show.
Citing the casting report from TVLine, the 29-year-old actress will "temporarily" be filling in for Zooey Deschanel (who plays Jess Christopher Day). The latter is reportedly on a maternity leave.
In Deschanel's absence, the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" actress will take on the character of Reagan, described in the TVLine report as "a gorgeous, straight-shooting pharmaceutical sales rep who comes to town on business and shakes things up in the loft when she rents out Jess' room while she is sequestered on jury duty."
Signed for a multi-episode arc, Fox will debut in the 6th episode of the brand new chapter.
TVLine clarified that Deschanel had already pre-taped five segments for Season 6 before she took off on her leave last spring.
"It's insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it," series creator Liz Meriwether said in a statement. "I've been a fan of her comedic skills since 'This Is 40,' and I'm so excited to have her on the show. We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part—she's the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up."
The show's cast members also shared their enthusiasm for Fox coming on board. Actor Max Greenfield, who plays Schmidt in the program, said on his social media, "This has been on my vision board since the pilot! #NewGirl #thesecretworks."
Her involvement with "New Girl" marks Fox's comeback on television. Her early works in the small screen includes roles in other sitcoms like 'What I Like About You" and "Two and A Half Men" as well as a regular position in ABC's "Hope & Faith."
"New Girl" Season 5 is slated to premiere in January.
