'New Girl' Season 6 Episode 21: Can the Truth Set Schmidt and Jess Free in Season's Penultimate Episode?
Two long-running mysteries may finally be resolved in the upcoming penultimate episode of "New Girl" season 6. But will this season really be the show's last?
In all of its six years on the air, FOX's comedy series "New Girl" has managed to keep Schmidt's (Max Greenfield) first name a mystery. Nobody has ever once uttered it or revealed it in writing. So it came as no surprise that actress Hannah Simone's show-related tweet piqued their fans' interest levels when she teased that the biggest reveal in the show's history will finally happen in the upcoming episode. Simone plays Schmidt's wife, Cece.
The tweet also comes with a video preview wherein Schmidt claims that his name is the worst one in the entire history of names. What could have caused Schmidt to hate his name so much? Could it be something that happened in the past, as teased by a promotional image of him, Nick (Jake Johnson) and Winston (Lamorne Morris) in their younger days?

But that's not all fans should look forward to in this week's episode curiously titled "San Diego." Jess (Zooey Deschanel) who previously ran off to Portland to be with her father, Bob (Rob Reiner), may just be enlightened enough by her old man to come to terms with her feelings for Nick and finally decide to go back home to the loft.
On the other hand, Nick's troubles with his girlfriend Reagan (Megan Fox) continues and he will find himself turning to a reluctant Aly (Nasim Pedrad) for help. Will Aly be able to help him fix their relationship the same way that Jess has always been able to do? Or will Jess' absence finally lead Nick to realize who he really wants to be with for the rest of his life?
Fans and cast members alike have been waiting for an official season 7 renewal for the show. But in an interview with The Daily Beast, actor Johnson shared that they have shot a season 6 finale that will wrap things up well enough to satisfy their core fan base should FOX decide to not renew the show.
"New Girl" airs every Tuesday at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
