New Horror Game 'The Flock' – Game Shuts Down After All Players Die
Game developers seem to be trying every trick in the book. Innovation in gaming seems to be a trend these days, and the new multiplayer horror game "The Flock" is trying to set its own trend. The game, instead of being concerned about whether it will sell copies or will last long, is instead setting itself up so that it automatically shuts down when all players die off.
"The Flock" is apparently only playable for a limited time and this time is dependent on how many of its players are skilled enough to survive. The game is set to be launched on Steam sometime during the third quarter and players will be taking on the role of monsters that are part of The Flock, which from the start are of limited population. When a player dies, the population is reduced by one, until all players are gone. Then the game will automatically shut down forever.
"After the ending, the game will go offline permanently and no longer be playable," independent developer Vogelsap told Tech Times. But the game is not going down without a bang – the developer also mentioned that they will have a special grand finale involving gamers who have the game in their Steam Library and this will be announced sometime towards the end of the game.
The game is currently undergoing a closed beta, and according to its creative director, Jeroen van Hasselt, they are still determining how many the starting population would be. It would be announced before the start of the game and he has said that it will be "substantial.
This different gaming experience, van Hasselt said, was intended to be "immersive, scary, tense and unconventional" which he said "do not last." It is a play upon the idea that the Flock is "a race that is nearing extinction."
Players start off as members of the Flock and each player's goal is to become the Carrier. Whoever the Carrier is, he/she is being hunted by the rest of the Flock. In order to become the Carrier, a member has to pounce on the Carrier without being hit with the Artifact's light. When a creature is hit by the Artifact's light, they have to stand really still.
